Jim Heather-Hayes, a legendary Safari Rally driver, has passed away.
This was confirmed to Nation Sport on Friday night by his wife Trish Heather-Hayes.
“Jim was 75 years of age and suddenly passed away today at our home in Tsavo. We don’t know yet what caused the death. It is sad and tragic,” Trish told Nation Sport.
At the height of his rallying career, Heather-Hayes was a well-known rally driver and is regarded as one of the greatest legends in the sport.
When the Safari Rally was regarded as one of the hardest events of the World Rally Championship series, he took on numerous of them and ended with a respectable placing.
When the Safari Rally was known as the Coronation Rally, Heather-Hayes also had a significant impact. In a Morris Minor, he took in the Coronation Safari Rally for the first time in 1953.
