Football head coach who has worked for teams at the college and professional level. He is best known for being the head coach at Michigan State University where he lead the team to a 11-2 record and victory at the Peach Bowl in 2021. He was previously the head coach at the Colorado Buffalos.
He began his career playing as a defensive back for the Wisconsin Badgers. He began coaching in 1997 as a graduate assistant Michigan State University Spartans. He went into the National Football League in 2005 with the Cleveland Browns as a defensive coach and was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2008.
He won Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2021 while leading Michigan State University. He won both the Hayes-Schembechler Coach of the Year and the Dave McClain Coach of the Year. He was the interim head coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He proposed to his wife, Jo-Ellyn, on their first date. They have two sons named Joseph and Christian.
He took over for Mark Dantonio at Michigan State University in 2020.
